Ah, coffee. Let’s be honest, you would be lost without it, as would most of us. It is a miracle substance which is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and for good reason. It smells good, looks good, tastes good, and many people can’t go more than 12 hours without it.
But where did coffee begin? Why is it so important? Well, let’s take a look at some of the different things which go into coffee, as we explore it’s beginning in the world with our introduction to coffee.
So the humble coffee cup begins life thousands of miles away usually. It starts as a small, reddish bean. It comes from a plant that varies in size, being anywhere from a shrub to a small tree in scale.
The beans will then go on an incredible journey across the continents. They are taken to a factory in fruit form, and extracted from their fruit by workers in a factory. Then they are cleaned, and dried to make sure that they are ready for the most important part – the roasting of the coffee bean.
Coffee, Roasted not Fried
Yep, to try and cultivate the intense flavour and collect the coffee into one of it’s final forms, they roast them in incredible heat to make sure that they are ready to be shipped off all across the world. When they reach the part of the world where they will be prepared, they are ground down into the familiar coffee that we know and love.
