How to Sort Out Data Protection From Home

How to Sort Out Data Protection From Home

So it really doesn’t matter what kind of business you run at this point, it is safe to say that life has definitely changed. Now things are a lot different for you and for the people that work for you, and so it is important to make sure that you actually take the time to adjust to what is going on.

Now, when it comes to data protection, you’ve kind of hit a wall, right? How do you look after the data of customers when you’re all at home and the company itself is effectively shut down?

Not to worry, you can do data protection from home now.

Setting the Score

Well, before you get all keen to get down to business, let’s check out the facts of this. You can’t just get started with data protection and not make any changes. No, you need to understand the risks of what you’re doing. This isn’t just something that you step into.

Obviously, you have got to make sure that what you are doing is abiding by GDPR and the data protection act. It’s definitely not easy to do this, but it is undeniably important. If you are going to be working from something like a laptop or a desktop computer, you need to make sure that you have invested in a suitable level of security.

For example, it is worth updating your antivirus to a paid version if you don’t already have that, and making sure that there is above a firewall in your Internet router and a separate firewall on your computer protecting these files.

So, How Do I Keep Data Safe?

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways that you can look after the sensitive information of your customers without having to worry too much about whether or not you are putting them at risk.

It is heavily recommended that you change passwords on your devices, that you do not let family members access the same devices you are using for work purposes, and also that you take time to speak to customers away from the family. Put an emphasis on private communication, especially if you frequently talk to customers over the phone.

If you are a company which has physical copies of files, then you should definitely think about keeping them locked away in a secure location. Don’t ever leave sensitive information lying around on a desk where anybody could look at it.

So, in conclusion, data protection is still a very important thing for you to keep in mind, even when you aren’t working in the office. The number of hackers and cyber criminals will be on the rise to try and catch out people who aren’t taking adequate security measures. You don’t want to be someone who does this, so you need to make sure that you have taken every possible precaution to protect yourself and the people you hold sensitive information about. It is definitely not easy, but it will pay dividends in the future when you have identified how you can keep people safe.
